Ryland Teifi is one of the most exciting singer/songwriters of the moment. Heno, his Welsh language debut album released in 2005, received critical praise both here in the UK and across the States. Sung in his native Welsh tongue, Ryland’s music transcended international language barriers and made a real and profound impact on people.
His new album, Under The Blue, his first recording in English sees a truly original blend of folk, rock, blues and jazz set the pace for his richly emotive vocals and deeply reflective lyrics.
Dylan, James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, Christy Moore, David Gray and KT Tunstall and the Celtic folk of Wales are obvious inspirations and father-in-law the late Bobby Clancy of the seminal Clancy Brothers, brings a further Celtic influence that is reflected in the soul-searching, profound, and often wonderfully melancholic landscapes of Ryland’s music.
Since recording his first album Heno, Ryland has had success as Welsh Singer/Songwriter 2006 and he has performed in Dublin, London, Seattle, Calgary, Vancouver and Paris and appeared at festivals including the Dublin Festival of World Cultures and The Faenol and Cnapan Festivals. In September 2006, he headlined a 9/11 fifth anniversary concert in Grosvenor Square, London for the families of British victims of the Twin Towers tragedy.
Ryland recently presented the first series of 'C2 yn y Ciwb', a live acoustic music radio show, for BBC Radio Cymru (Radio Wales)and looks forward to presenting the second series in the Autumn. Ryland is looking forward to touring this summer and officially launching Under the Blue at Sesiwn Fawr Dolgellau on July 20.
